Codeine Detox
Codeine detox for pain, migraines, or stress can lead to dependency through overuse.
Most Codeine patients had not intended to become dependent
when they first started their prescription medication. Their
physicians had prescribed Codeine to treat coughs, migraine,
irritable bowels, mild to severe pain, or other conditions.
Some patients used Codeine to treat their moods or emotional
maladies (possibly without doctor’s care), or to obtain
an illicit recreational euphoria.
Dependency may have started due to 1) physical pain
management; 2) misdiagnosed depression, trauma,
or other social insecurities, mitigated by the numbing psychological
impact of the drug; or, 3) recreational
drug use, without understanding the long-term
consequences of powerful opiate
addiction and withdrawal.
In all these cases, the amount of medication had progressed
to the point where patients tried to maintain some sense
of stability and to avoid withdrawal syndrome. Treatment
that had started with low doses of Codeine escalated
into such high levels that patients have to do the unthinkable
to obtain the amount of drugs needed. When patients
begin to self-administer Codeine-based medications in order
to relieve discomfort, dependency has already set in.
In recent years, millions of Americans (and patients worldwide)
have admitted to non-medical, unsupervised use of prescription
painkillers (i) (see chart).

The Waismann Method
The Waismann Method for Rapid Detoxification Under Anesthesia
has established rapid detox as a clinically proven treatment
effective for removing dependency on a wide range of opiates
including:Codeine, Darvocet ®, Dilaudid ®, Heroin, Hydrocodone, Lorcet ®, Lortab ®, Methadone, MS
Contin ®, Norco ®, Oxycodone, OxyContin ®, Percocet ®, Percodan ®, Stadol ®, Suboxone ® (Buprenorphine ®), Tramadol (Ultram ®), Vicodin ®,
and others.
We maintain a leading position in treating the non-medical,
physical opiate dependency. Over 10 years, we have set
the standard by which other treatments are measured. We
have also set the goal to change the way our world sees
drug dependency, one patient at a time. We do not view
opiate dependency as a hidden and shameful
disease belonging to the stereotypical "drug addict." Rather
we treat drug dependency as a reversible condition due to
a legitimate chemical imbalance.
Advanced science and the latest anesthesia techniques help
assure the successful reversal of opiate or Codeine dependency
under the Waismann Method of detoxification. We pride ourselves
in the highest degree of professionalism, dignity and respect
ministered to our patients.
- We perform the detox procedure in a full
service hospital to assure close patient monitoring
throughout the detoxification. We admit patients the
day before the procedure for a complete medical
evaluation. Patients must spend
24-48 hours at in-patient care beforehand, in order to
properly administer their pre-medication and to stabilize
their depressed body functions. This help to realize
a smooth and safe detox procedure.
- We transfer patients to the intensive care unit
(ICU) of our hospital, where our Board Certified anesthesiologists,
either Dr. Bernstein or Dr. Lowenstein, medically
induce and closely monitored withdrawal. Both doctors are
nationally recognized for their expertise in the Waismann
Method. Upon awakening, the patient no longer
has physically dependency on opiates nor a conscious awareness
of experiencing withdrawal during the detoxification.
- Doctors and staff monitor patients post-procedure at
our hospital to stabilize their mental and physical condition.
They usually discharge patients at least 24-48 hours later,
or when authorized to do so by our physicians.
The Waismann Method offers our patients the best
medical procedure available for opiate dependency.
The Waismann Method differs from other medical detoxifications
in the safety, comfort, and success we provide our patients.
Each patient comes to us with a different medical and dependency
history, so we treat each and every patients as individuals
with specific needs.
Our Optional After-Care and Treatment Center
The Waismann Method has also created an after-care environment,
called Domus Retreat, which treats related dependencies of
all kinds: anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, and personal
crisis. We firmly believe that post-detox treatment should
occur in a peaceful environment filled with dignity, respect,
and optimism.
Unique in its approach, Domus Retreat focuses on an individual’s
core issues that may have sustained an addiction cycle. Healing
of these issues occurs through multiple, intensive psychotherapy
sessions with highly credentialed professionals. In addition
addressing to core issues, we design individualized treatment
for the unhealthy repetitions and thinking patterns from
the past that have contributed to dependency, self-destruction
and relapse. Group work at Domus Retreat occurs in small,
effective and private settings. We blend these unique treatment
elements along with spa elements, to affect significant and
lasting change. We are dedicated to the personal change that
places you on the path to sustained recovery!
Domus Retreat provides a private, intimate experience in
an exclusive, ultra-luxurious setting. We limit the retreat
to only 6 patients maximum at one time.
Waismann patients have found opioid detoxification more
humane and effective than detox at traditional rehab programs.

“The Waismann Method gave me my life back and I can't remember the last
time I felt this good,” says R.G. following his Codeine rapid detoxification. “Without
all of you I don't know how I would have ever recaptured my life.”
